Fitness Rush Welcomes
Catherine Carrigan

Walter Rush, one of Atlanta's premier personal fitness trainers, is pleased to welcome Catherine Carrigan. "I'm excited about the new services and classes that Catherine will be offering," Rush said. "Clients at Fitness Rush expect the best when it comes to one-on-one personal training and spinning classes. Now we can take our services to a whole new level." Catherine Carrigan is an internationally-recognized expert in mind-body fitness. She has six health and fitness certifications. Her book, Healing Depression: A Guide to Making Intelligent Choices about Treating Depression (Sante Fe, N.M.: Heartsfire Books, 1997), a manual on how to heal depression without drugs, has been endorsed as a "source of hope for mankind." Catherine is a national fitness spokesperson for Johnson and Johnson, and is certified through the American Council on Exercise in personal fitness training with specialty recognitions in strength training and mind-body fitness. She is certified by A.C.E. and N.D.E.I.T.A. in group exercise, by the Educational Kinesiology Foundation in Brain Gym, a system of high-performance techniques used by professional athletes, in Touch for Health, and in yoga through the Atlanta Yoga Fellowship. In addition to her work in health and fitness, Ms. Carrigan is a playwright and has had four productions in New York City. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Brown University. Recently, she was featured in Peachtree magazine, where she trained the editor, who lost 5 inches off her lower body in a month without losing weight.
New classes, new services = more fun
Contrary to popular misconception, yoga is not a health food exclusively for the benefit of sandal-wearing vegetarians. "If your goals are to improve your strength, enjoy new levels of flexibility, and relax your mind, you will probably love yoga," Carrigan says.
Yoga Class Schedule for September: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, 12 noon. Cost: $10. Your first class is always free!
"A couple of years ago, another personal trainer told me I would love yoga," Catherine recalls. "I told him I thought yoga was just for wimps - then I discovered power yoga. Even the strongest, most bionic clients can get something out of a class that will please people who haven't dared to exercise in years.
"Now that the American College of Sports Medicine set new recommendations that everyone should stretch at least two or three days a week, we can safely assert that yoga is for everybody."
Catherine's yoga will be featured this fall on Creative Living, a national PBS show broadcast from New Mexico, along with interviews with her about nutrition, exercise for people with diabetes, and her book, Healing Depression.

New services
1. Freestyle Training for Women. This training protocol was developed to help ice skaters get strong and still look good in tutus. If you want to be like the editor of Peachtree magazine and lose 5 inches off your lower body in a month, ask Catherine how Freestyle training can work for you.
2. Shaklee Nutrition. All good trainers know that the best results come from combining excellent workouts with top-notch nutrition. Ask Catherine to work up a personal nutrition assessment for you. Find out about the only sports products written up in peer-reviewed nutrition journals as proven to help athletes build muscle. Discover how to replace electrolytes during long training sessions, learn about supplements to aid weight loss, and all-organic vitamins from the No. 1 nutrition company in the world.
3. PNF Stretching. In addition to yoga, Catherine offers hands-on stretching - perfect for anyone with sore or tight muscles, or athletes who want to improve their range of motion. Facilitated stretching can take you to a level that you could never reach on your own.
4. Brain Gym. Find out about the secret of Indianapolis race car drivers, professional golfers, and Olympic athletes. Brain Gym was originally developed to help kids with learning disabilities. Since 1991, it has been honored every year by the White House's National Learning Foundation. Salespeople who use Brain Gym improve their bottom line by 33 percent. "Of all the techniques I have ever learned, Brain Gym is by far the most powerful and the most fascinating," says Carrigan, who has lectured and/or taught seminars about Brain Gym in the past year in Zurich, Toronto, New York, Salt Lake City, and Denver.
5. Touch for Health. All serious illnesses and injuries of course require the assistance of medical professionals, but Touch for Health is an excellent system that combines acupressure with many other muscle-balancing techniques to help the body function at optimal levels. Anyone can learn how to use the wisdom of 3,000-year-old Chinese traditions to manage soreness and eliminate pain without drugs.
6. Posture Training. Many clients are constantly troubled by sore backs, for which they spend untold fortunes visiting medical doctors and chiropractors. Learn how to correct muscular imbalances and strengthen corresponding muscle groups to eliminate pain and even be taller.
"Probably the most amazing thing I have ever achieved myself through fitness training was simply to grow taller," Catherine says. "Athletes have used posture training for years because any slight muscular imbalance translates to decreased speed and performance.
I became a true believer at the age of 37 when I grew 1 1/2 inches taller. Even I could hardly believe it when I went to my doctor and he told me that I am now 5'4". Unfortunately, however, there is a limit - no amount of training could make me 6 feet tall!"
7. Fitness Education and Wellness Seminars. At your first session with Catherine, map out a personal fitness plan. "We begin with a body fat assessment to help you figure a realistic and healthy body weight. From there, we put together a plan so you know exactly what you should do to achieve your health and fitness goals."
Cut health care costs at your company or inspire your civic group with a health and fitness seminar presented by the pros at Fitness Rush. If there is a topic in nutrition, holistic health, or fitness you have been wanting to learn about, you may be able to borrow from a fairly extensive library Catherine will be bringing to Fitness Rush. "There is no real fitness without a foundation of good health," Catherine says. "The more we trainers can educate our clients how to help themselves, the better off they and their entire families will be."
Fitness Rush is conveniently located just off I-285 at 5290 Roswell Road, Mt. Paran Walk, Suite O.
